Lead time — 25–40 days for large forgings
34CrNiMo6 (1.6582) is a Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steel from DIN EN 10083-3. The balanced 1.3–1.7 % chromium and 1.3–1.7 % nickel give it exceptional through-hardenability in large sections and high toughness at the strength level required for heavily stressed rotors and shafts. It is the European equivalent of the ASTM 4337 family.

Power generation — rotor shafts, turbine discs, generator rotors
Heavy machinery — large pinion shafts, gear shafts, mill rolls
Marine — propeller shafts, rudder stocks
Oil & gas — high-stress drilling subs, shafts
34CrNiMo6 is oil-quenched from 850–880 °C and tempered between 580–660 °C. The Ni-Mo combination gives good through-hardening in large sections — but for forgings over 600 mm diameter the tempering cycle is tuned to the actual section to maintain core toughness. Tell us the OD and the required mechanical spec and we will propose the cycle with hardness mapping.
Most suppliers in this business are traders who subcontract everything. We run our own processes, which means shorter cycles and one point of accountability when something needs fixing.
Heat treatment shop — quenching and tempering to your target hardness, with furnace charts recorded per batch
Machining shop — rough turning, peeling and cutting to length, so your bar arrives ready for finish machining
Testing — ultrasonic per ASTM A388 / EN 10228-3, hardness mapping across the section, tensile and impact testing
Certification — EN 10204 3.1 as standard, 3.2 available with third-party witness (ABS, BV, CCS, GL)
Export packing — bundled, end-capped and rust-protected for sea freight
A1: Closest to ASTM 4337 (a Ni-Cr-Mo steel), but chemistry ranges differ. For new tooling that calls up an ASTM grade, send the spec and we will confirm the closest supply option and any heat-treat adjustment.
A2: Yes. We forge 34CrNiMo6 up to 800 mm and can deliver pre-rough-machined with UT to ASTM A388. Large-section through-hardening is the critical variable — we map hardness to verify it.
A3: 30CrNiMo8 (1.6580) has higher Cr and Ni (1.8–2.2 % each) and is specified for even larger or more highly stressed rotors. 34CrNiMo6 covers most heavy-shaft service. See our 30CrNiMo8 page.
Send us your diameter, length, quantity, required hardness and destination port. You will get a quotation with the full technical proposal within 24 hours.
