Product Description
ASTM A20 AISI 1040 Carbon Steel Bar
1: AISI 1040 Steel Introduction
AISI 1040 steel is a medium-carbon steel grade from the ASTM A20 standard. As a general-purpose carbon steel, it offers good strength, moderate hardenability, and machinability in the as-rolled or normalized condition. AISI 1040 is commonly used for mechanical parts requiring moderate strength and wear resistance, such as shafts, bolts, studs, gears, and structural components. Unlike alloy steels, it lacks significant chromium or molybdenum content, making it less suitable for high-stress or high-temperature applications. SAE 1040 is typically supplied in a hot-rolled or cold-drawn state with a hardness range of 149–179 HB (approx. 15–22 HRC) and can be heat-treated to achieve higher strength when needed.

6: Goods available in China
1040 steel is widely available in China and is typically stocked in a variety of forms, including round bar, plate and forged products. Pricing is heavily influenced by the cost of raw materials, with lead times for domestic orders stabilizing at 1-4 weeks, although occasional fluctuations in supply may occur due to high demand or environmental regulations.
